Real

Sources and assumptions

What on this site is real, what is calculated and what is assumed. The resort is virtual: terrain, heights, Lori and its monuments are real; trails, lifts, buildings, statuses, cameras and prices are proposed or simulated.

Virtual resort. The mountain and Lori are real; lifts, lodges and your stay are a simulation.

Sources

  • SRTM terrain model

    [source]

Tile N40E044, 1 arc-second, about 30 m cells. Heights in the studied area run from 1 340 to 3 076 m. A 30 m model smooths small steps, scree belts and local steep spots, so slopes there are understated.

No link is recorded in our analysis files for this source.

  • MODIS snow probes

    [source]

Snow seen on clear-sky dates over ten winters (2015 to 2025), 160 dates: Shaumyan 47 of 73, mountain base 45 of 53, top 83 of 83. These are point probes, not snow depth and not the share of snowy days in a season.

No link is recorded in our analysis files for this source.

  • Summit height

    [source]

    About 3 080 m by ArmGeo (3 081 m); SRTM gives 3 076 m. Shown only as a landmark, not a station and not a run.

  • Distances and travel time

    [calculation]

Gyumri airport to Shaumyan about 81 km, about 1 h 20 min (7 + 64 + 10 km; time is an assumption). Zvartnots to Shaumyan about 132 km, about 2 h 20 to 2 h 30 min. A 2018 article claims 60 km from the Shirak airport; the gap is not resolved. Travel times to monuments are estimates.

  • Neighbours' prices

    [source]

A day pass in Tsaghkadzor is AMD 13 000 (about €32) in the main season; a day pass in Gudauri, Georgia, is GEL 70. Another source gives different lift and trail counts for Tsaghkadzor; the difference is not resolved. Our example prices are tied to this one reference and are not a price list.

  • Lift types and capacity

    [source]

Capacity and speed ceilings by lift type are taken from a general reference. They are not a design for this mountain.

  • Lori and its monuments

    [source]

Haghpat and Sanahin are on the UNESCO list (no. 777). Places in Lori are real and do not belong to the resort. A stamp in the Lori Passport is given for a confirmed real visit and has no money value.

Route figures

[calculation]

Length and drop of each line and lift, from the public/terrain route file. They are calculations on the digital terrain model. The routes are conceptual corridors found by an algorithm, not a survey and not a trail design.

Assumptions of version 2

Each number below carries a mark. Capacity, keys, seats, shuttle and parking figures are a model on assumptions, not a forecast and not a promise.

  • [assumption]

[Assumption, 2026-10-26] Illustrative conversion: 1 USD = 390 AMD. This is not a live exchange rate.

  • [assumption]

Four zones: valley about 1 520 m, base about 1 985 m, middle station about 2 400 m, top about 2 700 m. These are SRTM trial points for layout, not building sites.

  • [assumption]

Starting scale: 5 ski lines, 1 gondola, about 150 keys. The main scale with 10 lines and a second lift is shown only as stage 2.

  • [assumption]

Skiing window December to March. The dates are probes, not an opening date.

  • [assumption]

Daily capacity: 25% of guests stay in the resort, a 2 hour morning window, a 12 person shuttle, a 35 minute cycle, 75% arrive for the day, 2.5 guests per car, 25 m² per parking place.

  • [calculation]

Day-guest parking on the base terrace: about 8 cars, about 13% of the terrace. A result of the assumptions above.

  • [assumption]

Ski school: about 25 instructors at peak, groups of 6, 25% of guests in school. Night skiing on G1, G2 and the lower part of B1, 2 to 3 evenings a week.

  • [assumption]

Terrain walks in the valley by gradient class: up to 5°, up to 8° and up to 10°. Forest on the slope is not confirmed.

  • [calculation]

Distances to the airports and the 81 and 132 km figures: sum of legs from the sources above.

  • [assumption]

Summer: snow melt at 2 000 to 2 700 m and lift dates are an assumption. Bike is flow and enduro, not downhill.

  • [assumption]

Lori Passport pilot: 3 to 5 partners, 1 to 2 routes, one season; 2 to 4 stamps a day at most. Children's data kept separately and only with a parent's consent.

  • [assumption]

Example prices on the plan page are invented to show the mechanics. The only outside reference is AMD 13 000 for a day pass.

  • [not confirmed]

Travel time between Tbilisi and Vanadzor, and whether Shirak to Shaumyan is 60 or 81 km.

Not assessed. Avalanches, wind, forest, scree, water, land ownership, access road, ambulance and evacuation: not assessed.

Checks still to do

  • Land: cadastre, status after the 2019 annulment, protection status of the mountain.
  • Winter and summer passability of the Vanadzor to Shaumyan road and the approach to about 2 000 m.
  • Avalanche, wind, scree, forest, water and storms, on detailed terrain data and in the field.
  • Medical: ambulance in Shaumyan, nearest hospital, evacuation from a lift.
  • Water and power for artificial snow and the spa; noise zoning of valley and base.
  • Rights and law: bike carriage, guides, liability, children's and GPS data, image rights, advertising law in Armenian.
  • Consent of heritage keepers, partners and local communities: not started.
  • Armenian text review by a native speaker.

Panel results in our analysis are a synthetic imitation, not reviews from people.
